Although having 'city' in its name, Slocan City is a small village of 379 in the West Kootenay region of southeastern British Columbia, located at the south end of Slocan Lake where the Slocan River begins.

Slocan City was founded in 1892 by Frank Fletcher to service the Slocan Valley galena-mining boom. It became a city in 1901 but declined rapidly with the demise of the mines. It was re-incorporated as a village in 1958.

Benefits of living in here in 2023 are:

It offers a remote work-friendly environment for people who want to enjoy a better work-life balance and escape the hustle and bustle of urban life. The village has high-speed internet access and a supportive community of digital workers.

Slocan City is part of a tiny home movement that promotes ecological sustainability, self-reliance, permaculture and minimalism. The village has several tiny home developments that offer affordable and comfortable living spaces with shared amenities and gardens.

There is a rich cultural heritage that reflects the diversity and resilience of its people. The village hosts events and festivals that celebrate its history of mining, logging, sawmilling and Japanese Canadian internment, as well as its arts and crafts scene.

The village is close to Slocan Lake, Kokanee Glacier Provincial Park, Valhalla Provincial Park and Springer Creek Provincial Park, where residents can enjoy fishing, boating, hiking, skiing, snowshoeing and more.
